How we make money

Updated October 9, 2026
Quick answer

In short: The Pest Control Brief is free to read. We may earn money when you use our find-a-pro form and a pest control company pays for the request. That money never decides what our guides say, which products or methods we describe, or what our data shows.

Where the money comes from

When you send a request through our find-a-pro form, we pass it to up to three pest control companies that serve your zip code. Some of those companies, or the networks that connect us to them, may pay us for each request. You pay nothing for the request, and you are under no obligation to book anyone.

We do not take payment for coverage. No company can pay to appear in an article, to be described more favourably, or to have a competitor described less favourably. We do not run sponsored articles, and we do not publish rankings of local companies.

What stays independent

  • Identification and treatment guides are written from university extension services, peer-reviewed research and the pesticide label. We say when a do-it-yourself fix is likely to work, even though that means you will not need a professional.
  • Prices and data come from named public sources, with the method shown. See our methodology.
  • Corrections are made in place with a dated note, whoever the error favoured. See our corrections policy.

What we do with your request

Your request goes only to companies that serve your area, and only for the problem you described. The details are in our privacy policy. If you would rather choose a company yourself, our guide to choosing a pest control company covers how to check a license and compare quotes.
